Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital Continues Commitment to Integrate ALTOs Program in Ongoing Wellness Initiative
February 6, 2024
[Burlington, CO, February 6, 2024] – Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital proudly announces its sustained dedication to the Alternatives to Opioids (ALTOs) Program, a pivotal initiative in Colorado that has been an integral part of our patient care strategy for the past couple of years. Our ongoing commitment to this program reflects our deep-rooted dedication to community health and well-being.
Embracing innovative healthcare practices, our hospital has proactively increased the utilization of ALTOs medications as a preferred first-line therapy. This approach not only offers effective pain management but also aligns with our broader objective of promoting safer, more comprehensive treatment options. While opioids remain a part of our pain management toolkit, our focus on ALTOs represents a significant stride in offering alternative, effective therapies for pain relief.
Recognizing that pain is a leading cause of emergency department admissions nationwide, we have been at the forefront of shifting traditional pain management paradigms. Our efforts echo the successful outcomes of the 2017 initiative by the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA), which collaborated with 10 hospital emergency departments (EDs) in a six-month pilot program, achieving a remarkable 36% reduction in opioid use.
Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital’s commitment to the ALTOs Program is more than a clinical decision; it’s a reflection of our dedication to the health and wellness of our community. As we continue to innovate and evolve in our healthcare practices, our focus remains steadfast on ensuring the well-being of every individual we serve.
We are excited to continue leading the way in effective pain management, contributing to a healthier, more informed, and empowered community.
