Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital Announces Carlotta Trevino as 2026 Golden Wheat Recipient

Burlington, CO — Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital (KCCMH) is proud to announce Carlotta Trevino as the 2026 recipient of the Golden Wheat Award, a local honor recognizing individuals who have made a lasting impact through healthcare in the community.

Carlotta joined KCCMH as a volunteer in January 2025, serving in the Specialty Clinic as a receptionist through December of that year. In just one year, she dedicated more than 1,000 volunteer hours, a commitment that left a meaningful impression on patients, staff, and visitors alike.

For many, Carlotta was the first face they saw when entering the Specialty Clinic. She greeted each patient with warmth and genuine care, creating a welcoming environment and helping ease the uncertainty that can come with a healthcare visit. Her ability to connect with people and make them feel seen and valued reflected the very heart of KCCMH.

Beyond the front desk, Carlotta found joy in small but meaningful moments especially when delivering the Cozy Cart to inpatients. Whether offering comfort items or simply a kind word, she had a way of lifting spirits and bringing light into someone’s day.

Due to personal reasons, Carlotta made the difficult decision to step away from volunteering. It was a heartfelt moment for both her and the hospital, as serving others was something she truly loved. She remains hopeful that one day she will return to volunteering and once again wear her apron
with pride.
