Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors Approves New Hospital Construction

Burlington, Colo. — During its June 2026 meeting, the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital (KCCMH) Board of Directors voted to approve the construction of a new hospital facility, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare for generations to come.

The decision follows more than a year of facility assessments, research, and a comprehensive feasibility study evaluating the long-term needs of the organization and the communities it serves. After carefully considering both renovation and replacement options, the Board determined that constructing a new hospital is the best long-term solution to meet the region’s growing healthcare needs.

While the decision to construct a new hospital has been made, the project remains in its earliest stages. Hospital leadership is currently forming a planning committee to explore financing options, potential locations, project timelines, and other key components needed to move the project forward. KCCMH will also work closely with physicians, employees, patients, and community stakeholders to identify priorities that will help shape the design of the future facility.

KCCMH is committed to maintaining transparency throughout the project and will provide regular updates as milestones are reached. As part of that commitment, the hospital plans to host a community town hall meeting this fall to share progress, answer questions, and gather public input as planning continues.
