Dr. Andrew Brookens

Dr. Brookens is a visiting  nephrology specialist from Rocky Mountain Mountain Kidney Care. He grew up in the Denver area and has always felt a strong connection to Colorado and its outdoor lifestyle. He attended Duke University in Durham, NC, earning degrees in Public Policy and Spanish Literature while completing his pre-med studies. After college, he served in the Peace Corps in Bolivia, where he taught schoolchildren, supported rural businesses, and became fluent in Spanish.

He later earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he conducted research on mineral bone disorders and gained experience in home dialysis.

In 2019, Dr. Brookens founded Altitude Kidney Health to provide accessible, patient-centered kidney care and help patients overcome barriers to managing chronic disease. His practice incorporates telehealth, remote monitoring, and language support, with a strong focus on helping dialysis patients remain active and, when possible, receive treatment at home.

Dr. Brookens cares for patients throughout the East Denver–Aurora and Southeast Denver metro areas and also hosts a regular clinic in Summit County. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors in Colorado with his wife and son.
