Echocardiograms

An echocardiogram (often called an “echo”) is a noninvasive test that uses ultrasound waves to create moving images of your heart. It shows how your heart chambers, valves, and blood flow are working in real time.

Your provider may recommend an echocardiogram to:

  • Check for problems with heart valves or chambers
  • Measure how well your heart is pumping
  • Detect signs of heart disease, infections, or congenital (present at birth) conditions
  • Investigate symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, or swelling in the legs

An echocardiogram is a safe, painless test that takes about 30–60 minutes. A technician will place gel on your chest and use a small device to create moving images of your heart. No special prep is usually needed, and you can return to normal activities right after. Results are reviewed by your provider, who will share what they mean for your care.

Appointments:

Echo appointments are available on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, with the addition of every Friday (excluding holidays).
A physician order is required and can be faxed to 970-692-2655.
